Welcome to Asia Pacific Association of Threat Assessment Professionals

APATAP President’s Message

Dear APATAP Members and Colleagues,

As I step into the role of President for the next two years, I reflect on my time with the committee since 2012, watching our association progress despite various challenges, such as connecting people across our vast region, bridging linguistic barriers, and navigating the trials of a global pandemic. Even through gruelling lockdowns, we managed to adapt by hosting a well-timed conference in 2020, followed by webinars and virtual events that kept us connected.

The 2023 conference marked a significant turning point as we began to align our ethics with our actions. Initiatives such as decolonising dress codes and implementing cruelty-free catering were not just symbolic but concrete steps towards a more inclusive and sustainable practise.

Looking ahead, my goal is clear: to continue highlighting and platforming the lived experiences of minority groups and to refine our threat assessment and management practices to meet diverse and intersectional needs. Our commitment extends beyond words; we are dedicated to taking tangible actions that reflect our values.

I am genuinely excited to collaborate with our new committee - a group of professionals with extraordinary expertise and big hearts. Together with our members, we will shape the future of APATAP with intent, empathy, and determination.

I look forward to sharing this journey with the threat assessment community and crossing paths with many of you in the times to come.

Sincerely,

Dr. Annabel Chan
